Bored At Work?
Yesterday morning I wrote about the FiSH! Philosophy in relation to work. Funnily enough, I had a tough day at work and my positive attitude was really challenged. I think I maintained a positive attitude (but only just). Anyway, this got me thinking about my career as a whole.
At present I have a good stable job with a good stable income. As I alluded to yesterday though, one of my major goals is to derive income from something I am passionate about. My passions? Photography, blogging, films, the outdoors…. these all spring instantly to mind. I do enjoy certain aspects of the finance industry in which I am currently employed, so I’m not ruling out a future job or small business that is meaningful and interesting in this field.
I think stating my desires like this is the first step to making them materialise. I have for so long just accepted a certain path for me and pushed the true desires of my heart aside. And I think this could be said for many people. So many people hates their jobs, and yet they will do nothing about it. They become comfortable because they are being paid a regularly. They don’t believe that they deserve any better.
My challenge to you is this: ask yourself some tough questions. Do you enjoy your job? Is it something you are proud of? There are always certain economic realities, and I’m not suggesting that you suddenly quit your job. But take a quiet moment to truthfully answer these questions. If the answer to them is ‘no’ then ask yourself: what am I doing about it?
Thoughts are incredibly powerful things. Believe that you can have an interesting and meaningful job or small business. Once you believe, begin start taking small steps in that direction. Who knows where you might end up? The destination may just be a place that has purpose, passion and interest. That’s certainly what I’m hoping for.
