I can so relate. I use to be a video editor in advertising and it wasn't unusual to work from 9am to 2am or longer, under extremely stressful deadlines. The money was great, but I didn't care much about the quality of my work, which made me feel even worse. Then I began taking real time to be introspective and figure out what I really wanted. I started slowly muscling my way into freelance writing work and eventually made a transition to travel writing full time. I had a mess of personal self-doubt, estranged friends, stress in my marriage, and financial matters to straighten out. All very worth it.

Change the only constant in life..... I suppose when faced with such style of life, it is imperative that we make a change for the better. I know so many people who talk about it. But not that many who actually go ahead with it! So, I congratulate you on that!

Great post. The advice is more related as you describe it using your life.

What a great post! It was really interesting to see how your journey and realisations unfolded and I also like the honesty of there being no quick-fixes. It makes your story all the more inspirational; that you have issues you are recognising and willing to overcome and discuss order to grow as a person and to add value to others, as personal development should be.
I will make sure to check your site and thanks Pete for sharing your site for such a great interview series.

Great article David, thanks for sharing your journey. If more "upwardly mobile" types read articles like this it might give them some perspective, and show them what really matters in life
