100 Sites for Free Audiobooks Online

As you may or may not know, I’m a self-described “audiobook addict”. As the father of four young children I don’t have much time to relax with a book when I’m at home, so instead I do most of my “reading” when I’m in the car driving to and from work.
I’ve recently invested some time in redesigning and renaming my audiobook blog, and to help relaunch the blog I’ve compiled a massive list of free audiobook sites which you can find here:

There are some great sites on the list and there is something to suit every taste – mystery, sci-fi, poetry, children, classics, religion… they’re all there. Some of my favorites are:
- Books Should Be Free: my favorite site to download public domain audiobooks (i.e. books that are not subject to copyright – typically these are classics). You can view their Top 100 audiobooks or browse by genre.
- Overdrive: this is a download service which libraries can use to make audiobooks and other digital content available for browsing, checking out and downloading. More than 13,000 libraries worldwide offer audio books via OverDrive. The great thing about “borrowing” audiobooks from the library is that you can find recent works, including current bestsellers.
- Podiobooks: offers serialized audiobooks distributed via RSS, much like a podcast. There are over 500 audiobooks available which are spread through a wide variety of genres including sci-fi, fantasy, chick lit, humor, magical realism and thrillers.
- Storynory: this is a great collection of free audiobooks for kids. There are original stories, fairy tales, classic authors (e.g. Rudyard Kipling), educational stories and stories for younger children.
