Again, I must agree with the timeliness of the Post . I am doing my last minute elven stocking stuffing rush...and needed a white glove of direction. I usually dash from merriment to merriment gifting and re-gifting like a woodland holiday hobo; so, I am ready for any economical respite to whirlwind consumerism...

Hi Ruth, great post.
Sometimes we present a gift to someone without knowing if it is useful for that person or not.
You're right that the best gift is something that will touch the heart of the one whom we we present the gift.

Giving a gift can be a wonderful way to help build a relationship. It is our relationships that make life work, in every sense - they are so important. So yes, it's the thought behind the gift that counts - absolutely!

Hi Ruth,

Thank you for this beautifully written, and very timely, guest post. I must confess, I am one of those people who can be negative toward gift giving. As a result, it often gets left to the last minute (guess what I'm doing today? :) ). I have, however, experienced the feeling that comes from giving someone a gift I'm especially proud of. So I think you're right; with a positive attitude and some creativity gift giving can be a happy and personally rewarding experience. Thanks again for the post.

A really beautiful post! I wish I had been thinking a little more in this vein before I went out shopping. The one thing I am good about doing is capturing ideas throughout the year as people close to me make reference to things they'd like to have or that they enjoy. It definitely relieves the stress of having to be thoughtfully inventive at the most hectic time of year.

I think I'll bookmark this post for reference on all of those "other" gift-giving occasions that come up throughout the year. Thank you!
